Default Need bike Help!

I bought a 1998 zx7r a couple months ago. I bought the bike without fully understanding everything that goes on the title. The guy handed me over the title and I went to the tag agency to get this switched over. The title was not under his name, he said it was under his step dads name.

Well the front of the title says MR., and I suppose the wife signed the back of the titled and signed it as MRS.

The tag agency said this voids the title and I would have to have this guy sign it over to me or have him sign something saying his wife was able to sign this off. But someone had notarized this signature!

Not only was the named signed but there was a lean on the title. I called the loan company to get some information on the original owner so I could possible get in contact with him but they would not release his information.

I have a bill of sale from the guy I bought it from, but it is not the same guy that is on the title. I still have his phone number and address, but I have been calling but he always makes up different excuses about how he is out of town, and this has been going on for a couple months.

Does anyone have an idea of what I should do? Is there a way I can get that info to get in contact with the original owner? Is there a way to go ahead and get the lean release? I do have the title in hand but there are the signature and lean that is wrong with it?

Will this affect me when I go to sell it? Can I still regester it without transfering the title so I dont get in trouble? Is there a way I can see if it is stolen?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Default buyer Beware

Ordering a vehicle history report before buying a car is always the best idea.
In addition to telling you whether or not the vehicle is stolen, vehicle history reports
can tell you about any major wrecks the vehicle has been involved in,
if the title is valid, any recalls issued on it, and pointers that can help to identify odometer fraud.
Vehicle history reports are incredible resources for anyone who is buying a used car or truck.

each state has its own way of answering your question
not sure what yours is..
I Googled " Current or Previous Owner of a Vehicle"
and there are a few sites for different states
you may be able to get quick title or salvage title
but with a lein I would just file a suit in small claims against the
seller as it seems like the step son and mom sold property that was not theirs
to sell to me remember the saying Buyer beware!

good luck

I ran that history report with the link you sent me. It came up with 0 records but did pop up the bike. Does this mean the bike is clean and clear?

If so would I have a tough time selling the bike?

Default title

I would get in touch with the mom, she signed the title if she has power of attorney you need a copy of that, or the dad needs to sign it cause its in his name. if they wont work with you file suit in small claims court.
that will probbly motivate them. course it will cost you filing fee and to have supoena served and court costs, that loser will have to pay too.
it would be better to get the guy on title to sign.
doesn't sound like its stolen, sounds more like son sold you a bike belonging to his step dad and had his mom sign title, and she had no authority to do so
