Default Passenger Uncomfortable

Hello to everyone I am new here. I have been out of motorcycling for some time but last fall bought a new 2001 Sportster 1200 Custom and love riding again. However my wife finds the passenger seat a little confining and even with the rear shocks adjusted to stiffest setting the bike bottoms out a lot. Is there any way to overcome this? I have been considering trading for a Big Twin but am not sure which offers the best passenger comfort. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There are air ride supplemental shock applications that can be installed to bike for greater control and easy 'fine tuning'. This can be kinda expensive for all it's worth, and if you are doing a good bit of two up riding maybe you should consider a bigger bike.

Nothing against the sporty's cause they do have their place in the Harley family but two up riding is going to be harsh on a sporty no matter what, in my opinion.

If you are seriously looking for a larger bike it really depends on your riding style, how often you ride two up, and the kind of miles you put on your scoot. I ride a Heritage which is perfect for me currently. My wife rides with me occasionally, and I do both hard riding around the city and some longs trips. With some modifications and customization this bike is currently serving me very well. Let us know what you're thinking about which bike you want, and also list how you ride....and that would help more.

Anyway or whatever you decide to ride....good you're back on the road and loving it! Take care.

As was said, nothing wrong with the Sporster, they are just not built for the road and especially 2 up. I have the Big Guy, the "Rolls" of bikes(in my opinion), it's a Harley Ultra Classic. It is a big bike and it is very comfortable on the road. I am also a big dude, 6'4" 240 lbs, so I have no problems with handling the bike around town either. I ride it to work every day. Harley makes a great line of bikes that are much better for the road than the Sporster, just about any of the FL series bikes do well on the highway. Electra Glide, Road King, Heritage will all do well.
