I just got my Softail back from the shop where I had new tires installed. They put the rear wheel axle/bolt in backwards (the nut/pin is on the right side instead of the left). Is this a big deal or should I just get over it???

 

I've heard this done because the exaust is blocking the removal of the long axle bolt with out removel of the exaust. My softtail the bolt clears the exaust. May be you should ask the Harley dealer service deptment if this is OK. As long as the brakes and belt line up and nothing is rubbing should be OK. But check it out before going on a long ride.

I'm thinking the same as Rapido, the axle should not have but one shoulder and that would be the threaded end. The spacing for your wheel is done by spacers and the bracket for the brake. As long as the wheel is centered in the fender and the brakes are not in a bind, and the belt is lined up, I would think you good to go. As a matter of fact, you might appreciate the axle coming out that way some day instead of having to take the exhaust system off to do some work back there.

 

I`m in agreement with the replies to this point.Makes no difference which way the bolt goes in as long as its torqued to the proper specs.I heard that on the assembly line the guy who is on that side of the bike is the one who puts it in place and it heads to thenext location.The exhaust factor is a major plus.Wish my caliper was on the other side.............
