Sportster 883
I just bought a 2003, 883 and want to ditch the pipes and want to replace them with Jesse James Hell Bent pipes but want to know if they will fit? Also has anyone seen a 883 with a Super Wide 240 Tire kit? If you can help me out that would be great!!!

Welcome
Welcome to "BikerForums"
If I were you I would call my local Harley Dealer, or a local Independent shop, they can look at one of their product books, such as "Drag Specialties"...etc, and cross reference the pipes with your 883, and tell you if Jesse makes the pipes for your bike or not. As far as a 240 kit for your bike they may be able to help you with that also, but I've never seen a Sportster with a really wide tire in the back. Not saying it can't be done (hell, if you got the money almost anything is possible these days), but I usually see the really wide tire mods done on the bigger bikes, like Softails, or the custom bikes such as the "Big Dogs" , or "Titans"....etc.
Good luck with your new scooter, the personal touches are what make your bike unique, and stand out from the rest of the crowd.

Yeah, check out drag specialties and your local independent shop, they'll help you out. The WCC signature pipes that you are talking about are sweet, but they are damn expensive. I have a friend who put them on his fatboy and I think he paid 900 for them - and that was from a friend's shop.
Don't know about the wide tire either, but like fatboy said...if you can dream it somebody probably has it in production or it's able to be modified to fit.

not that I'm an expert or anything, but I would think it would be difficult to put a 240 on a Sportster cuz the tranny is internal in the engine and the Big Twins are able to pull it off by off-setting their trannies which are separate from the engine. Know what I mean? You need to offset the tranny to get the belt by the huge tire I think. Correct me if I'm wrong anyone. But now that I've thought about it, there are Sportster drag bikes with car drag tires on the back, so like someone else said, if you can dream it, it's most likely possible. Good luck getting those goodies. In my opinion, you should punch that bitch kitty out to 1200 cc's first. Talk about a sleeper...

Welcome to the forum...and congradulations on the new bike.
Like has been said...I ain't no expert, but...the engine tranny config prohibits the super wide tires on a stock frame. You would definately have to either alter the frame...(Not a good idea) or...get a different frame altogether...(Most condusive). I do think you can go up to a 140 wide tire...but what's the use??? Not much difference there...stock is 130.
As far as the pipes go...Check with the usual places like have been mentioned, but I would imagine that they are available...for a price. Be sure that they have some sort of reversion with them...the newer bikes need it to maintain the horses. If they don't have it, it really robs you motor! There are ways to get reversion...which can be added...extra expense tho.

Wow !!!
Phil, welcome
That is gonna be one bad-*** Sporty when your done !!! Make sure to post some pics of the completed project. All I can think to say is WOW, never seen any rubber anywhere close to that width on a Sporty. Great job, and great pics, keep em coming, and keep us updated.

PHiL2,
Can you tell me what swingarm you are using and what it took to mount it. Also what Fender and size Wheel you are using. If you can remember a price and where you got everything that would be very helpful.
Thanks

PhiL2,
Thanks for the reply. How much frame modification does this kit require? Also do the front and rear wheel stay in line with each other? If you have your bike complete does it ride and handle good?

I am in the process of building a 94 sportster with a 240mm tire. I am using a 16 x 8" solid rim with a 240/50 16 that I had to order from Germany because no one makes them in the U.S. I think the 16 looks better than the 18 because the 18 is all rim and the 230 is too much tire. I am running a custom offset pully wide swingarm and a 10 1/2" jesse james steeler fender. The only problems are the hub had to be turned down .775 thousands. The sporster pully dosent have a offset like a softail. So when the drive line is lined up the tire is not centered in the frame. With the fender the sporster frame is not as wide as the fender so you have to mold it into the frame like a strutless or weld 1/2" steel struts to the frame cut the fender to fit, mold the struts to the frame and the fender or fab a cover. I am at the fender part of it now and am not sure which path to go. Also I had to run a PM universal brake and bracket. Will be posting pictures soon. I any ideas on making the fender fit come to mind let me know.

Fatster,
It sounds like you will have a slick bike when you are done. I agree with you on the 16” wheel. I like the way they look, plus I like the lower seat height. I was looking into putting a wide tire kit on my 97 Sportster until my engine blew about a week ago. Now I am trying to figure out just exactly how I want to rebuild my motor. I am polishing the ports in my Lightning heads tonight. I already have an Andrews N2 cam in it and I am thinking about going back with an N8. Post some pics of your bike when you get them.

Sorry to hear about your motor. I went thru mine last year. I used the thunderstorm heads, Wisco 10:1:1 pistons and I running a N8. I was thinking about running a N6 but the offset trans pully that I'm runnin has 30 teeth which is 2 less than a stock 883. I'm not sure how the N6 will run. I want it to be rideable since I put about 20 thousand or so miles on it a year. I like a good hole shot but I dont want to drive a tractor either. I would also like to port and pollish the heads but how much increase in power for the money do you get? Everyone charges out the *** for bike michine work. I think my next project after this tire mod will be a S&S 115.

Fatster,
I hate paying for machine work also. I am just polishing the ports myself with a dremel tool. I am not doing very much porting, the lightning heads are in “pretty good” shape. I am only knocking off the ruff edges and smoothing things up. Does your bike run good off of pump gas, no spark knocking? And what kind of ignition are you running? I am leaning real hard toward a Wiseco 3-3/4” (84”) big bore kit. I am trying to decide between a 10:1 or a 10.5:1. I’m kind of a torque junky.

This set up runs good on pump gas. I do add a octane boost I think that this helps. I have a screamin eagle ing with the rev limit to 6800 rpms. I ran the 10:1:1 because weve had detanation problems with the 10:5:1. It helps to put a copper head gasket and a allum base gasket. It bumps the compression up a tad. I thought about stroking it but its bucks to machine the cases and it reduces the life of the motor. Thats why I will eventually end up with the S&S. IF your going to pay for it you might as well do it right.
