The shock mounts are stock, The kit supplies, how do i phrase it?
extensions? the shocks mount on longer bolts with sleeves to support them. I will most likely weld and brace them but my instructions (in German) don’t say what to do, well at least what i understand. I sat on the Buell again. I made my noises. The wife shakes her head. How log is winter in Wisconsin?

Mine came with extensions too and I threw em out. I wanted to be able to use the stock strut covers. Saves on the fabb'in. And I wanted to keep as much as the stock look as I could. You know that this summer everyone and there brother is going to come out with a kit. I put the strech tank and wide glide conversion on my bike 2 years ago when people were still puttin fat bobs on sporties now I see em everywhere. Its hard to stay original you know what I mean? But I just got new 41mm wide glide trees with a 5 degree rake in them and 4 piston PM front brakes. That might set me out for a couple months.

Speaking of forks.
I was looking at the front brake on the Buell. Does this sound off?
I was wondering if I could swap front ends.
Move the Buell forks and brake (not the wheel) to the Sportster.
Keeping my 21” laced wheel. Also move the 39mm Sportster
forks and brake to the M2 and leaving the 17” wheel on the Buell.
I am rebuilding the Buell as soon as the Sportster is back on the road. So its not a great loss to the Chopper it will become.

I am also considering an inverted Buell front end. Either one will drop the front end by 2 inches. There is a shop down in Illinois that can make up the triple trees. I’m not sure if the axils will swap out.

The gas tank I started with is a Paughco # 830 5.25 Gal tank. A little fitting and it works. The seat is not yet there. I will have to make a seat pan and ride a few towns over to Alligator Bobs for some nice padding to rest my tail bone.

I still need a 16x8 Spun Alu wheel. I have also been playing around with the idea of a rotor mounted behind the sprocket. I will just have to work out mounting the caliper to the swing arm.

Strut covers? To each his own. They came off when I shortened the shocks to 10.5 inches.

There've been several discussions on the XL list at www.sportster.org on swapping for Buell fronts. From what I remember, it's a simple swap 'cuz the stems are the same size, but you want the whole front end, including bars, controls, etc. I think the recommendation was an S1 front for the inverted forks.

Good for the twisties, but not for me: I put a Seeger front end on mine.

By running the 240 16X8 instead of the 18x8.5 I was able to mill off about .50 on the trans pully to bring the cover closer and change the master cyclinder to bring it as close to the bike as possable dont like the bulky stuff sticking out. Later I figure out a way to totally enclose the pully.

Faster
That is one slick bike

Mine is still in my Dad's Barn, in pieces.
I’ll bring in home as soon as I get a places to work setup in the new home.
I don’t ever want to move again, what a pain.

I did get an older Buell this winter, to ride to work and back come spring. But I can hardly wait to ride the Sportster.

Oh I will need to do frame work, it seems the taller cylinders make accessing the rocker boxes for removal, imposable. I will have to raise the backbone about 1.25”. If I move up to a 114” . I’ll need the room.

Funny, the bike scares me now. As a 114 “? I don’t know, but I can do it , so I will.

My Dads barn is in a diferent state than i'm in
I have to visit my bike

Also Dads getting on and leaves the 300+ feet of drive back to the barn up to me to clean off. Spring is what, 8 weeks off?

The Buells still at the dealers, the garage is still a mess from the move. You have 25 degrees? We have been in the single digits.

I would take single digits in a heartbeat. It's been between -29F and -45F the last couple of days, with a little bit warmer weather forecast for Friday.

Nothing against Alberta, but its to far North for me. I was looking to move to Kentucky. But the job is 35-45 min from the new place. The price of the home and the cost of living is fair considering what I was use to live in Evanston just North of Chicago .
So we moved north to Wisconsin.
Does any one remember “Captain Wrong Way PeachBuzz”? I think I made a left and wanted to go right.
Well the roads look good for riding. I will find out come spring.

The snow is starting to melt off. I'll turn the power on to the barn next week. Pull the tarps off everything and see if the mice found new nesting places. Past experience tells me I will be dealing with dead bats and nests of mice in my stuff. God I hate moving. I cant wait to get everything home.

I am new here but I have been working on my own wide-tire kit too. It is not that hard to do, it just takes some time and research. Here are some sources for parts that I have found on the internet.

I just ordered my 8.5" WWC Steeler rear fender and a 4.75 WCC Jaialai front fender. I used a 18x5.5" chrome spoked wheel and a Metzler 180x55-18 tire. The hardest part of the project was to get the rear fender struts spread out evenly on both sides. My tire is still centered and I am still running a factory drive belt. I modified a stock swingarm to work instead of ordering one. I also have a set of Basanni pipes ordered and I am hoping to have my bike finished in a couple weeks.

Chain Drive Offset Sprockets
Koshman Specialties
Baker Drivetrain
Motorcycle Works
CAS4 Offset Sprockets

Belt Drive Offset Pullies - 180 and 240
CAS4 Offset Pulley

Swingarms
Junior Motorcycle
CAS4 JMC Swingarm
CAS4 Swingarm Kit

Complete Kits
CAS4 180 Kit
CAS4 240 Kit

Here are some pictures of my Sportster:

Side shot of the 18" wheel and struts.

Side shot, sorry about the blurry image...

Pulley side showing the offset tranny cover. Bassani pipes on the way.

Closer shot of the swingarm, pulley and wheel.

Rear shot. Excuse the bondo, this is not what I am going to use. I just widened the stock rear fender so I would have something to work with until I could order my WCC fenders.

Pulley alignment. I tried to get a picture to show how everything lines up.

Lookin good zoomy I'll have mine finished by the end of this week just laid the base today and the tank slid of the stand and I caught it so I got to wait till tomorrow to sand and shoot the tank again and Ill tape off the flames and paint them Tuesday and I'll clear it with about 5 coats and buff it for a awsome look. I'm usin viper silver and the ghost flames are white pearl mixed with clear base I call them stealth flames. Cant wait to get her done.

Thanks, my jaw about dropped when I saw your bike! I started this project a while ago but got distracted with school and all, so it sat all last year. When I started, CAS4 just started selling the 180 pulleys. Back then it was either make your own pulley, go chain drive or buy the Dragon kit. I refused to dish out $1000 for that pieced-together Dragon kit and I wanted to stay with a belt drive. BTW, Junior Motorcycle up in Canada is suppose to be putting together a 180/200 Sportster kit that includes the swingarm, tire, wheel, fender, pulley and everything needed to do the conversion. I think it will sell for around $1600 US.

Tonight I just scored a Jesse James Tombstone Front Fender off eBay for $149.99! I am trying to get a rear WCC 8.5" for under $225 and then I will be firing up the compressor!

I do not plan anything fancy for my paint, just Chroma Base 99A Pitch Black and a couple coats of Chroma Clear. I think with the amount of chome that is on a 1200C Sportster, black will look awsome. I might try to find a cool set of chrome tank badges and if that gets too boring, later I can always lay some flames or something over top the black.

Yeah I feel sorry for people that buy these kits and dont do any research and when they get them they realize that how much work really needs to be done to make this happen not to mention more money. It dosent come together overnight you just have to take your time and do it right. I have worked on mine for going on 8 months now. Its well worth the time and work. The worst thing is waiting on parts and other people. I wanted to have the brake switch run off the banjo bolt and I ordered it 3 weeks ago and still havent got it also wanted to coat the inside of the tank before i painted it and havent got that yet. Waiting sucks. I hope nobody likes waiting like they like CV's. (lol).

Well it’s the end of spring and nothing has changed for the Sportster. I have just been riding the H*ll out of the X1. The house we moved out of back in December is under contract finally. I should have the $ needed to have the frame work done. I don’t know if I mentioned this but I stroked the Sportster to a 5”. Now I cant get it in the frame. The swingarm is still in the shipping box, and a good HD spun aluminum wheel has yet to be found. I have a Buell front end but I still need trees with 2 degrees of rake. Also I have to adapt my existing 21” wheel to the front end. I have a line on a same side sprocket / disk brake setup. Where the disk is behind the sprocket and it fits a 16” wheel. After riding the Buell and having a FI instead of a carb. I just might pull the Holley off and sell it. I cut the shocks to 10” and picked up a fender at a small shop that parts out old bikes. That’s it for now.
