Swapping tin
Soon the new tin will have the theme painting finished for my fuel-injected '03 Heritage Springer. At that time, of course, I'd like to swap out the anniversary tin with the fresh stuff. I'm not overly mechanically inclined, but I'll have my Father with me to lend a hand, and he is. What I'd like to know is, what kind of effort is required to switch over the fuel-injected stuff from the original tank into the new one? Is there anything I should get in advance to prepare for this? Are there any "gotchas"?

Clay, not sure about the EFI bikes concerning the tank....all I've ever had is carbed bikes
One tip for you...clamp off the crossover hose (front of the tank)with 2 small needle nose vise grips to each side of the hose. Cut the hose in the middle with an exacto knife (small amount of gas will be released). Then replace the hose when you reinstall new tank. Get a shop manual if you don't have one.
Make sure when you are working through the removal of the tank to be in a well ventilated area, with no spark producing things around....hot water heater, furnace....things like that in case of any spilled gas (like when you cut the crossover line).
And post some pics of the new tins....please

Thanks for the input. I have a Clymer's manual, but I think I'll look for a Harley shop manual as well, just in case. You can never be too careful.
The base is already on the new tin shown below, with the murals to be added shortly (probably over the next couple of weeks. As well, a 1941 Cadillac hood ornament (flying lady) will adorn the front fender, and a Harley logo with two halos hanging off it will be painted between the tombstone taillight and the bottom of the rear fender.

And this image will be on the top of the tank (removing the tank panel) between the console and the seat:

Yes, if I were you I would spend the $$ for the MOCO shop manual....also a "parts" manual is worth the money as well. It has "exploded" views of all the parts on your bike....a life saver when you can't remember where some little screw, of gasket goes....trust me

I just know you should plan for 2 days and do the work in one day. Get to know all the parts involved and line up all the tools to do it. Makes the actual work easier and more fun.
