Valve Stem Leaking

Valve Stem Leaking
Hello.
Last the rear, tubeless tire on my Yamaha v-Star custom 650 went flat. The bike was about a year old. I decided to do the manly thing and disassemble the back of the bike to get the tire off, grease the splines and a bunch of other stuff of dubious necessity. Took the wheel to the dealer and they replaced the tire.
Eight months, and very, very few miles, later the replacement (bought NEW) tire is flat again. Since the manly thing was getting a little expensive, I spent a little more time on analysis.
The valve stem, L-shaped, is leaking where it meets the rim. It's locked down with a 12mm nut, which I removed - but did not try to pull the stem out - not sure what's behind it - assuming its some kind of seal which I won't be able to get at(?) without pulling off the tire?
Seems like there must be some home-remedy for this. Suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
-Larry
