Headed to Texas in July!
Hey everyone!
A few friends and I are planning a week long trip to Texas in July. Were just going to camp out when we get there. Were thinking Austin possibly, but I would definatley be open to suggestions if anyone thought there was a better place? Also one of the guys coming with us was saying I might wanna think about bringing some kind of mosquito netting because that old saying that everything is bigger in Texas is true with insects. I was just wondering if anyone could lend some insight here. I'm just wondering if that is really even necesarry to bring. I have a link to where he bought his stuff, but I just want to make sure it's necessary. Thanks for the help everyone! RIDE ON!

Hi, being a Texan, now living in Fresno calif. can asure you about the mosquito thing. mosquitos are found in certain areas of texas. I doubt you will find any at Austin or that part of the state. than again you may be surprised. there's a big beatiful camping lake around that area. I do not know the location but will call a friend and post here later. me, myself and I are planning a trip to Brownsville Texas in August. this is my very first "big" trip. as an inexperienced rider would appreciate any tips.

The Texas Hill Country that surrounds Austin is beautiful, and chock-full of great twisty roads. Austin is probably the most logical destination for a trip to Texas, and my wife and I make it down that way a couple of times a year. (of course we only live a few hours away in Fort Worth) While in town, be sure to eat at one of the two County Line Barbecue locations... good stuff!
Mosquitoes aren't the scourge in Texas that they are in Florida by any means. What you have to brace for is the heat. You'll need plenty of fluids available at all times, and for goodness sake be sure to use sunscreen! Stay away from the wimpy stuff, and insist on a high spf sunscreen that says "waterproof" and "all day protection". I've been doing cross-country rides for years, and I see too many people get fried by the sun.
