Default Snow - Part Two

Well, we got hit yesterday damnit. I didn't even know they were calling for it and I was holed up at work. Roads were so bad that it was taking hours to get home...so I just stayed at work until 9 and then cruised right home.

Supposedly, we're gonna get hit again on Saturday...could be even worse. As long as the game is still on, I could care less....don't have anywhere to be this weekend.

We got about 3".

I'm sure the game will be on, but it's gonna be quite a storm from what they're saying.

Smile Mongo,

All this talk about snow has me missing the white stuff a bit. I see your from Philly, I used to live in Lancster County Pa. (ah-ha, the man mutters to himself.) Yes my friend, Amish country... it's all starting to make sense now isn't it?

I was a drywall finisher for years, and worked on the Reberto Clemente Elmem. school over there while they were doing an expansion project. I also did work at several other schools there in Philly, but Roberto was the one where we had the most lee way to be creative and have some fun. (not to metion the fact that we were able to "bury" most of the other trades, listening to them bitch about us doing our jobs so well and on time was the best fun.) They all got so mad at us that one day my boss's truck got it's tires slashed, windsheild knocked out, gas tank sugared, and the finish on the truck was redone with cans of spary paint. We loved it.

the dry wall trade started to change by the time the rotator cuffs of both my shoulder sockets decided to blow, so I was glad to be getting out. We used to be kinda like the "bad boys and girls," of the trade, but all good things must come to an end I have been told. My crew up there are still the reneagades of the industry, as we were all "old skool" but now it takes more of the boss's time to keep them from being banned from the jobsite. So the kind of things we used to do are becoming less and less acceptable... even to the bossman. But the crew gets the work done, on time, and blows the compatition out of the water when crunch time comes. They will work 18 hour days, sleep a few hours on the job and start blowing out the work after a few hours of R&R spent on the sheets of board on the job.
I do miss the snow, but most of all I miss my "brothers" on the old crew.

Even got a slight flurry here yesterday. Damned glad it wasn't stickin to I-95 on the bridges I had to cross. Southern states don't have the winter gear you yankee's got up north. Thank god you can't export that "Black Ice" down here too!

Chess, I'm guessin those other trades were (gasp) UNIONIZED?

Yeah, it looks like all of us up here in the northeast are going to get hammered with some heavy snow this weekend. Being a skier, that's ok by me. Also, I can't wait to see how the weather is going to affect the Falcon's game. It's certainly going to slow down Vick somewhat. Go Eagles!!!

Wink ahhh Natural...

of course they were! Pa. is a great state of the "Union." LOL...
We were not part of the union per say, at least the shop wasn't. Which is why we would work our asses off for out boss. He blew a gasket if he cought us sitting down, and not working on a particular problem... If ya sat down on the job it was to work out a particualrly nasty problem that had everyone perplexed,,, like: these damn blueprints call for a wall here... but if we do that, there won't be a door for the damn room. We used to just build em the way the blueprints called for them... and the damn building designer started having cows... wouldnt payfor the corrections for his own flaws. Now that was okay, cuz my boss could figure out a way to make it another tarades problem... yeah we weren't exactly the darln's of the job site! LOL ahhh the good ole days are about gone now my friends...

14" of snow, this is horseshit. I spent a few hours digging out the driveway and car....and now I'm feeling even sicker. Oh well, I'm trapped inside with lots of beer, ingredients for chili, and two football games to watch. Go PA.

Well, they're telling us we're getting 30". Yes, that's 30".......

I've shoveled twice tonight. The first time about 7:30 and there was about 3" on the ground. Just did it again (11:30) and there's another 8" on the ground. And they're saying this is just starting to get into the heavy part of the storm.

Thank goodness my brother is coming by with the plow tomorrow morning. I'd be shoveling for a week!

we got wollopped up here in CT. I had 3-4' drifts on my deck and in my driveway. I drove 3 hours through the blizzard from Manhattan because we were at the International Motorcycle Show Saturday. Driving really wasn't too bad and once home we stayed out until 9 PM hitting bars and doing parking lot shananigans, WUHOOO! Sunday morning me and friend went to do the annual 10k Tradition Run up Meriden Mtn and no one showed but us. A reporter took our pic after we were done, I'll attach it here along with a pic I took of some cool crystal formations on my garage window this morning. brrrrr!

A buddy of mine blew off work and did the NYC show on Friday. I, on the other hand, froze my tail off skiing with my son in PA on Friday night. I planned on going to the show on Sunday, but since the roads in north western NJ were in pretty bad shape, I wound up spending most of the morning having fun with the snowthrower. Every time we get hammered like this, that thing is without a doubt one of the best investments I've ever made. Screw shoveling that crap.
