Default Dear Friend in Motorcycle Accident!

Hi my name is Emily and recently one of my closest friends, Christy Brooker, was in a very bad motorcycle accident in Washington. Im posting on various Biker based forums in hopes some of you can open your hearts to a stranger.

Please read below for details on Christy Brooker. I will keep this updated on her status.

..> Repost from Larry & Azure, Information on Christy

Information about Christy Brooker...

Christy is in the ICU/Burn ward at Harborview. Azure and I have been telling people where she is located in the hospital but she has been moved a couple of times so far because of the nature of her injury. She had a lot of visitors today and that shows that there is a lot of love for her but here are a couple of reminders to people. First she is in the ICU for a reason and that is for rest and healing, also they try to not have a whole lot of people in there at the same time not just for her but for every one on that ward so keep that in mind when you visit her. Also they do wound dressing every few hours and it is best that no one be around for that at all. All in all it was a good day.

Here is some more specific information as to what is going on with christy at this time and what has caused all this.

Christy was in a motorcycle accident this last monday while on vacation in Packwood with Myself and some other friends. While coming back down from Mt. St. Helens we drove into a u-turn switchback going a little faster than we should of and Christy hit her foot peg and went off the road while trying to right herself. She was doing everything right that a motorcyclist is suppose to do but she just ran out of road in which to do it in.

When she went down she sheared off the skin on her knee down to the bone to about the circumference of a half dollar. After getting some help on the side of the road we got her to the hospital where they cleaned and excised the dirt out of the wound. They then released her. No X-Rays, No antibiotics and no pain meds.

She got her wound cleaned and a tetanus shot and then was sent on her way and told that she could walk on it and to take tylenol for the pain. AFTER A MOTORCYCLE WRECK!! a lot of people are very upset at this quality of care from an emergengy room.

The following day we got her back into seattle and at home where she could try to get better but by 9 that evening she was in such a get deal of pain that we took her to urgent care at group health to try to get her some pain medication of which she finally got a morphine shot and some oxycodone at around midnight. They rebandaged her wound and we took her home where during the course of the night between 2 in the morning and 8 she had taken 7 of the oxycodone.

I had to go to work that day and while at work around 4 her leg had deteriorated quite a bit with large bruises and what looked like a large blood blister about the size of a hand on her inner thigh. She was taken to the ER at harborview by an ambulance from group health where the kids had taken her again and she had spent the rest of the night in the ER. The following day she was in surgury for a good portion of the day and I did not get to see her and then I had to work. Later that night Azure came to tell me what was going on.

They told her that she had contracted Necrotizing Fasciitis in the wound from the wreck. For those who do not know, this is flesh eating bacteria. So over the course of the following days she has had surgury to remove the dead skin from her leg and to try to excise the bacteria out of her leg so as to keep it from spreading. So far this is a very extensive wound but they believe as of today that they have gotten it out but it is still touch and go so that is why she is in the ICU so that they can continually monitor her leg and take action if necessary.

She is on the mend but it will be slow going and she can use all of the moral and spiritual support that everyone can muster, so no matter what you happen to believe in, on or about. say a few words for our beloved little lady because she really can use it right now.

As more information comes I will pass the word along here so it can get spread amongst all of our friends

Thank You in advance,

Larry

Default New Christy Update!

New Christy update

Hey everybody,

Having left the hospital this morning to come to work I have a moment to send you all an update about our little lady. So far we are playing the watching and waiting game which is why she is still in the ICU. The reason that they are kepping her there is so that they can keep a close eye on her white blood cell count, if it goes up it means that her body is fighting harder than it should and the take her back to surgury to remove more tissue from the affected area. At this stage when they take her to surgury they try to remove the smallest amount of tissue that they can so that they can try to maintain as much of the remaining skin as possible. So she will be in the ICU for a little while yet and it will be a minimum of at least 3 weeks before the will even start the skin grafts to close up the wound.

I personally do not know the full extant of all the tissue that has been removed so far because I haven't yet been able to bring myself to sit in at her wound care and redessing. At some point I will but as anyone who loves someone knows you do not want to see the person that you love hurt or in pain and I right now I am trying to be as strong and as supportive as possible. Christy on the other hand has seen her injury and watches what they do during all of her redressings so she is very aware of what it looks like, all I can say is that she is one hell of a strong woman. Way stronger than me by far. Her mom fainted but not our Christy, she just wants to see what is going on.

As of today they did change her meds so she is not on morphine but they did switch her over to Dilaudid which is also a very stong painkiller but she is getting a PCH machine which means she has the happy button and is in charge of when she thinks that she needs it. That being said it is possible for her to have some visitors but I stress PLEASE CALL before you try and visit her and so do not be disappointed if you do show up even after calling and are told that she can't see anyone. Do not take it personal as she is on top of everything else only getting a couple of hours of solid sleep a day. Also the ICU/Trauma ward is almost completely full with patients so the nurses are very, very busy but they are amazing and they are treating Christy with an amazing amount of kindness and care with the utmost professionalism. So please understand if at times they might be brusk on the phone.

I also hope that I am not coming off sounding agro or like a dick at all, I just care about this girl tremendously and I want her to get well as soon as possible and right now she is my first priority above anything and everybody else. So I wanted to apologize just in case.

Christy says that she loves you all and that she is thinking of all of you while she is in the hospital and she thanks you for the support that you all are giving.

So please share the donation information with any and everyone that you know or as I said before just spread the word or say a prayer for a speedy recovery.

Also if you haven't already, become a Friend For Crassy Broad.and tell all of your friends.

Thanks and much love,
Larry

I would suggest you contact a patcholder in your area and see if
at the C.O.C. that maybe they
-or another club-
would be willing to have an event (poker run ect..)
that one of the clubs could put on.

they will be aware of this accident locally
and your local bikers are more likely to support that
than on a national level.
I hope she gets well soon
I just had a brother go down and though he will live
he will never be the same again.
Sometimes you want to shove a cagers cell phone...
well nevermind

Thank you for support and kind words.

I hope your brother gets well mentally and physically.

Our girl Christy is one tough broad and vows she will ride again!
We will be putting on a benefit in the Seattle area. Equipped with burlesque dancers, BBQ, and LOUD rockin music!

A little update for anyone whose interested...

They believe they have gotten all of the bacteria out of her leg. All I can say is THANK GOD she still has her leg!! Shes a tiny little thing and I know some big fellas that couldnt have handled 8 surgeries in 5 days, let alone a flesh eating disease!

Shes able to talk when shes not all drugged up. She actually called me at work the other day! So they are hoping to move her out of the ICU in a few more days and skin graphs in about 2-3 weeks!

Thanks to everyone that has read this and supported our girl!
