Rapido, I don't think that crack is from vibration, I think maybe you bottomed out, and the rear tire hit the fender.....just a thought.

is it even possible for the tire to hit the fender? i doubt there's enough suspension travel for that. if there was then fat-asses riding two-up everywhere would be rubbin fenders...

 

Fender was not bottoming out. I dont ride two up so, my Fat *** is enough weight to hitt bottom. But the wheel travel does not go far enough. Yes both sides are cracked. I might not get a new fender, I just might have this one welded up and re-painted. That crack has been stopped as I found the problem. Back of the strut holding the fender is not designed to be tightened with a strong bolt. I did have a 1/2 inch thick standard standoff used for the turnsignals in there but it slipped into the hold on the fender and thus the crack. Stress and minimal vibrations caused the crack. My own stupid wrenching is the cause.

Rapido you're having a lot of probs with the ride as of late, fall is turning out to be a bummer season for ya.

Good you found the cause....too bad it's after the damage. You could always tell the insurance that some fat *** named 'Mongo' stopped by for a cup of coffee and sat on the back of the girl...next thing you know the fender damn near popped off.

Oh well, sorry about all the probs looks like Winter is gonna have it's projects for you.

 

Too bad I ride all winter. The only good thing here is I will need to get a second ride so I can start working on the bike and still be ridding. California has real mild winters. One year I saw temps drop to 18 deg F but it only stayed for a few days and was back into the low 30s and 40s. It snowed one time I can remember in 30 years and stayed on the ground just for 1 day. I'm looking right now at a Police Special Road King. Nice ride. Just might get this one.

Rapido, bummer about the fender. I think all of us that wrench on bikes and cars know what you are going through. Sometimes it's hard to see the end result of an idea, and **** happens. Have a beer (or 3), treat yourself to the new RK popo model, and that Fatboy will be good as new soon.

Another idea that might keep you riding is to look on Ebay for another rear fender. Maybe you can pick one up cheap, have it painted, and just make the swap one rainy day. Then have yours repaired and sell it, or keep it for a spare. Just a thought.
