Default First bike.

First you should get lessons if you have never drivin one before. If you have then there is a few things you have to tell. What height are you, do you like heavy, medium or light bikes? Have you any bike in mind? Everyone recomends this bike and that bike but you have to be comfortable on the bike you choose. After you reply ill know what bike may suit you and give you all the details of that model, its good points and bad.

A good first bike is one that you feel confident on. If you haven't done so, take the MSF course. You will be glad that you did.

I'd suggest something like the shadow vlx 600 to get you started. It's small but can still cruise on the highway. You can move up from there.

I definitely wouldn't recommend a crotch rocket until you feel comfortable on the street. Way too much power for a newbie.

Most start with a 600...Others choose to start with 1000's. I would recommend a 600 for your first bike, something used because you will drop it atleast once.

Where would one find this MSF course? Is it at the DMV/DPS office? How much is it? and do they have bikes there for people taking the course/test? Sorry for the interuption but i figured since it was mentioned i could get a quick answer and be done without startin up another thread.

EDIT:Also after the course i plan to get a used GSXR 600 to support grinsters saying about most starting with a 600, i found it a happy medium between the 550 whatever and lower and the 1000 and higher

You can find an MSF course in your area by looking online. Yes, they have bikes that you can use for taking the test. In NJ you can bypass the state driving test if you pass the MSF course. You need to have passed the written test to enroll. You will not be sorry you took it

In my opinion, a good first bike is something you don't have a problem riding.
