Default Yamaha 81 650

Hey everyone,

I'm new to this forum, and curious as to what people think of the Yamaha 650's from 1981. (I believe its called Seca). I'm about 5'7 150lb and in about a year, plan to take a bike across the country, and hopefully back again. There is one near by for cheap which needs a little work. I don't want to put time and money into it though if its in general just a bad bike. Also there is a BMW 71 r75/5 near by that needs a lot more work I believe. I don't know which one would be a better bike to take on as a project. If anyone has any insight they would like to share. please do.

I rode beemers for years , they are german made and have less plastic crap.
but parts when they do go cost a LOT more $
I don't like the new bmw myself but the ones from 70's and 80's i loved the look I took off farring so it would have that old style look.
you will have more cc's with beamer too. but I found feet got hot with horizontal cyclinders on long trips so I would put engine guard and foot pegs on it if you get that one.
downside thats an old bike..
